Discuss reasons why people would want to mark celebrations like Valentine’s Day or National Day on Singapore Flyer
Singapore Flyer, standing at stunning 165m, is the height of a 42-storey building which is 30m taller than the famed London Eye. It costs $240million to build. I guarantee that if people hear of these reasons, they will surely want to take a flight too.
1) It is the only place in Singapore to enjoy a magnificent landscape. As the wheel turns, people can see iconic and breathtaking landmarks and views: Marina Bay, Singapore River, Raffles Place, Merlion Park, Empress Place and the Podong.
2) Besides that, people can get a feast on famous local dishes such as, Seafood Paradise @ Flyer serves famous local food like chili crab, butter crab, cereal prawns and drunken prawns. Before or after the ride, to prevent the hunger of the visitors, there is a great variety of international food from Indian fusion to Japanese delicacies and Italian epicurean. The food stated above is most suitable for foreigners or tourists who are not used to local food.
3) The view outside the capsules offers a picturesque landscape for photo taking. There is a lush, tropical rainforest in the centre and water displays, streams, rocky outcrops and etc.

My friends and I were swimming at the very pool when it happened, and I saw it all. It had been a warm, sunny day. My friends, Nadine and Sabrina, were there with me. We splashed and played only for a few minutes before the incident occurred.

“Splash!” My friends and I heard it and we turned around to face where the sound came from. There, right before our eyes, was a pool full of blood. The lifeguard, who had been sleeping, immediately woke up and stared at the pool.

“What happened?!” he asked.
“Crocodile!” someone shouted.
“What! Someone call the police!” another person shouted.
“Help!” Someone exclaimed accompanied by the sound of thrashing.

Sabrina scanned the pool for the person in need. She jumped into the pool and swam as fast as possible to the boy. He struggled to keep his head above the water as the crocodile snapped at his feet. Sabrina grabbed the boy and swam towards Nadine, who was calling the police while I called the zoo. The crocodile cut through the water at full speed toward its prey, opening its jaws wide for the killing blow. It missed and people cheered. But the cheering stopped when they saw Sabrina starting to slow down and blood rushing out of her leg.

“Come on, Sabrina! You can do it! Just a little more! Don’t give up, not now!” Nadine and I encouraged.

Sabrina tried to get away, but the deadly predator pursued her swiftly. The sounds of an ambulance could be heard outside.

“About time! Quick, Nadine! Get outside and tell them to hurry up!” I shouted to Nadine.

Nadine ran out, and briefly explained what had happened. The police, who had arrived earlier without me noticing, were streaming in behind the zookeepers. One of them shot the crocodile with a tranquilizer. It slowly stopped moving and the zookeepers put it in a cage to be sent back to the zoo. The police and paramedics carried Sabrina and the man she had tried to save to an ambulance each, while more police herded the people out and questioned some witnesses. Two policemen walked up to Nadine and me and asked us who our parents were. My parents arrived shortly after, running towards me and asking me if I was alright. Soon, Nadine’s and Sabrina’s parents arrived at the scene. Nadine told them about Sabrina and they were devastated. All of us visited Sabrina the day after, but she had died in her mother’s arms earlier.

“She was a hero,” Nadine said.
“She died an honourable death,” my father lamented.

The day I lost a friend was the day she had gained everyone’s fullest respect.

Incident At The Swimming Pool
The air was muggy as the occasional breeze had died down, leaving the trees and grass to wither. The clear water glistened under the scorching heat. I took a deep breath and the fresh air filled my lungs. I felt rejuvenated. Not a second to waste, I dived skillfully into the pool, splashing water all over. As I came up to the surface of water, my friends applauded and praised me. Jasmine, Alice and I decided to swim after our final-year-examination. However, despite the smile on her face, as she turned back, she muttered some bad words under her breath. Realising that she was cursing me, I felt the tips of my ears tinge with anger. Jasmine, the rich girl, always wear most expensive Adidas swimming costume but never goes into the water, only to hang around the pool.
“Jasmine! How dare you curse me! You can’t even swim, huh?” I hollered at her.
Immediately, her face turned as red as beetroot. She blushed so furiously that even the tips of her ears turned red.
She swallowed a gulp and muttered, “Well, I… can! I can swim! I can beat you! Do you want to see? I will… dive at the deepest point of the pool!”
Dumbfounded, I stood rooted to the ground. Alice and I were astounded. As a diver of school team, even I had never dived at the deepest point of the pool! I could see Jasmine’s legs turn jelly-like and she was terribly apprehensive as she took each step. We whispered in hushed tones that Jasmine was never going to make it. Jasmine finally jumped, spinned and dived into the water. As the last drop of water landed in front of us, we expected to see Jasmine gasping for air and coming up to the surface. However, nothing happened.
For about one minute, Jasmine did not appear. A thought dawned on me that she might be struggling in water. In a microsecond, I dashed towards the point where Jasmine jumped and dived. As I swam and looked for Jasmine, I stammered nervously to myself, “Please, please, where are you?” Just then, I caught a glimpse of someone thrashing about and gesticulating wildly towards the surface. I craned my neck and strained my eyes. It was Jasmine! Without a second thought, I swam skillfully towards her. I grabbed her arm and gestured that I was going to rescue her. I finally dragged her out and tried my best to resuscitate her.
“Stupid! Why are you so reckless?” I shouted, as my eyes reddened and turned moist.
From that incident, I realized that Jasmine could not swim as she had a heart problem. Another lesson I learnt was… skills in life-saving come in handy!

THE JACUZZI SITUATION

“Mark! We are getting late, after dropping you at the tuition centre, I have to go swimming!” I yelled and waited for my brother to come downstairs.

“Whatever Megan! I want to finish my video game. Just wait for five minutes!” Why did mother put the machine in his room?

In Las Vegas, everybody is obsessed with video games and do not what goes on around them! If you are going somewhere, you can forget what you want to buy and sometimes even why you are there……

“Let’s go?” Mark said after TEN minutes.

At the swimming pool, I met Jan and Gwen who were twin sisters but totally different. Splashing, racing and volleyball, everyone was having fun when a loud splash came from the Jacuzzi pool. People started screaming and thinking why was a heavy green, metal ball doing in a Jacuzzi?

Ten minutes later, smoke and started splashing out of the water. It was surely an electronic device! Luckily a quick-thinking man called the security guards and everyone was asked to evacuate that area. After the device was inspected, F.B.I members confirmed it was dangerous!

The F.B.I members brought the device carefully a gigantic plain and buried it slowly. Half an hour later, “Boosh!” it exploded but nobody was hurt as the land was deserted.

Everyone was sent back home and I feeling excited in a weird way as this experience was actually scary.

The next day, on news channel ‘LV 24/7’, there was a report about this incident. I was elated as nobody was hurt but this would be an unforgettable experience! But as people say, all’s well, ends well.
